Heinz Lorenz Pyramiden

Exklusive insights from the Heinz Lorenz Pyramiden workshop

The history of Olbernhau, like the one of many other cities in the beautiful Ore Mountains, was first shaped by the mining industry which gave its name to the whole region, as well as by the toy production and other Erzgebirge arts and crafts. A special tourist feature of this town, often named the "city of the seven valleys", is the "Saigerhütte" in Olbernhau-Grünthal - an unique complex of historical facilities and buildings of the non-ferrous metallurgy dating back to 1537. The Heinz Lorenz workshop is located in the Hirschberg district, directly on the German-Czech border, along the little river Schweinitz.

Family manufactory Heinz Lorenz

The family business was founded in 1953 by master woodturner Heinz Lorenz. With his supporting wife, he initially built small railways and later specialised in Christmas pyramids. In 1993 the management was taken over by his son Peter who had been trained as a wood turner in 1985 and passed his master's examination in 1991. Lorenz-Pyramiden is a family business and a member of the wood toy makers, turners and wood sculptors guild - as well as a member of the of the association “Erzgebirgischer Kunsthandwerker und Spielzeughersteller e.V.” (Erzgebirge artisan and toy manufacturers).

Heinz Lorenz Christmas Pyramids

The product range of Heinz Lorenz workshops includes several one-tier pyramids with a turning wood chip tree in the center and different figure configurations, all in different shades of natural wood. The outer frame of the Christmas pyramids made by Heinz Lorenz is shaped like a Gothic arch, which stretches over a wood chip tree surrounding the axis, and different little sceneries on the inner platform. Of course the typical Christmas motifs should not be missing: The birth of Christ, the carol singers in their typical dark coats as well as various angel motifs turn in circle on the round tier. Pretty deer motives or the miner's chapel can also be found. All models are 26 to 28cm (10,2-11 inches) high and, depending on the model, can be operated either with candles or tea lights.

Quality

At Heinz Lorenz Pyramids, awareness of tradition and the highest quality of processing meet with a strong environmental consciousness. The valuable raw material wood is processed as efficiently and resource-sparingly as possible. The wood required for production is air-dried, and the leftovers from production are further processed for smaller parts. A modern wood heating system is operated with the remaining residual waste.
