Seiffener Volkskunst (SVK) Forest Dwarfs

They hide in the undergrowth and are so small and elusive, making humans almost never catch a glimpse of them in their native environment - we are talking about forest gnomes. However, if you provide a haven within your home for the charming forest dwarfs crafted by Seiffener Volkskunst with their amusing conical hats, you will undoubtedly have the pleasure of encountering these enchanting creatures more frequently. The ball incense figures make a very cozy impression with their seated posture and rounded noses.

The pointed caps that stick out vertically upwards betray the small-grown creatures, which of course particularly like to hide in the forests of the Ore Mountains. While most of the wooden figures are sitting around in a relaxed manner, the "Forest Dwarf on Skis" is on the move in winter sports and even carries a little basket piggyback, perfect for holding colorful incense candles or other decorations. The nose of the Ore Mountain dwarf is already quite red from the cold - high time to give the smoking man a place in the warmth of your room.

The design of these smoking figures is clearly inspired by nature. The colors, such as raspberry red, moss green, sand yellow, stone gray, and natural shades, are reminiscent of the forest and cover the bodies of the little ball figures. The glaze allows the natural grain of the wood to shine through, effectively highlighting the nature-inspired motif. The forest dwarfs, with their gray or white beards and oversized caps, are still meticulously crafted by hand with a lot of love in the show workshop of SVK.

The smokers in the style of a forest dwarf are not only well received by collectors of wooden art, but they also make adorable gifts for fairy tale enthusiasts and nature lovers, and can beautifully adorn a window sill alongside houseplants.

The forest dwarf smokers, with their charming appearance and intricate details, are not only highly sought after by wooden art collectors, but they also make delightful presents for those enchanted by fairy tales and nature. In addition, these enchanting figurines can add a touch of whimsy and beauty when displayed on a window sill, harmoniously complementing the presence of lush houseplants.

Where do dwarfs come from"

Dwarves, originally from Norse mythology, are known for their shape-shifting abilities and they are said to dwell in mountains, caves, or under rocks and trees. They possess the power of invisibility through magical camouflage clothing. These mythical creatures made their way into Germanic mythology through the dwarf king Alberich, who was the guardian of the Nibelungen hoard in a medieval saga written by an unknown poet.

German fairy tales are incomplete without the presence of these mythical creatures. While the seven dwarfs from Grimm's fairy tale "Snow White" are famous for their friendly and helpful nature, not all dwarves share the same disposition towards humans. Some are cunning and deceitful, leading to the term "poison dwarf" being used in other fairy tales. As guardians of treasure, dwarves and gnomes are often depicted as suspicious and greedy, but as craftsmen, particularly blacksmiths, they are described as hardworking and skilled in magic.

The ambivalent nature of dwarves in mythology and fairy tales is evident in their various roles as both helpers and antagonists to heroes. The typical depiction of a dwarf, with a long beard and a pointed cap, originated from the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. SVK's forest dwarfs are also inspired by this traditional portrayal.
