History of the Annaberger Folded Stars

Advent stars made of paper have a long tradition in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains). The small town of Annaberg-Buchholz is often referred to as the "centre of silver mining". The famous “Annaberger folding stars”are produced there by the Buchbinderei (bookbindery) Kraft. Annaberg lies about 45 km southwest of the famous arts and crafts village of Seiffen.

In 1924, cardboard box manufacturer Karl Friedrich produced the first foldable Advent star made of paper, and named it "Friedrich-Stern". This star was the foundation stone for almost one hundred years of advent star production in Annaberg. At the time of the GDR, production stagnated for a short time but the popular stars were not forgotten. Since 1996 the bookbindery Kraft has been producing and selling the paper star now named "Annaberger Faltstern", which since then has brought shine and atmospheric light into many windows and living rooms.
Founded in 1867, the long-established company Buchbinderei Kraft has been dedicated to traditional bookbinding for 5 generations as well as repairs and exclusive leather bindings. Thus, the specialists working there have a lot of experience in handling high-quality and delicate paper. The Annaberger Folded Stars have been an integral part of their production range for over 20 years now, and are available in many colours and variations. It goes without saying that they are all lovingly handcrafted. When the glow of light appears in the centre and makes the warm colours of the stars shine up, they create an almost magical atmosphere which is difficult to describe with words.

The colours of the Annaberg Advent and Christmas stars are white, yellow and red in various combinations. They are available in one colour or with points in two different colours, which are set alternately. The third variation consists of a core colour with different coloured tips. Due to their construction, the folding stars are very easy to assemble and can be folded up again just as quickly to save space while storing them safely inside their box. They are available in three sizes: 35, 58 and 70 cm diameter (13,8, 22,8 and 27,6 inches).
We also offer the corresponding accessories for the lighting: For the smaller stars there are LED lights with 3.5 meter long supply cable. For the larger stars, a conventional E14 socket with a 4-metre supply cable is provided.

Please note that all Annaberger folding stars are only suitable for indoor use due to their delicate material.
