Erzgebirge-Palace and Datadock - a strong and green cooperation
In April 2014 we moved all of our servers to the Datadock computer center in Strasbourg, France. Therefore, we are part oft the most environmental friendly and most innovational computing center in Europe. Datadock is a project which had been planned by PlusServer AG since 2007 and has been realized from 2009 on.
Because of aspects of sustainability and lowering of operating expenses, the main focus while planning and constructing the computing center was on power efficiency. The areal is located in one of richest areas in underground water of Europe. The artesian water is already cool enough (12°C) to be used in the cooling process of the computer center right away without processing it before.
Any kind of energy that is delivered to Datadock is clean energy produced by wind- or water power; that means that Datadock itself is completely carbon neutral. Even the diesel generators that are used to secure the emergency power supply are leading in their category when it comes to emissions. The security measures of them are designed so well that neither in case of a leakage or while refueling it there is a chance of fuel being lost into the environment.
Since it is the most energy efficient and most eco-friendly of ist kind in Europe, it got awarded the title ‘Greenest Computing Center’.
To give you some numbers: Computing centers usually add 60% for their own infrastructure to the energy that it takes to run the servers. At Datadock in Strasbourg, this PUE (= Power Usage Efficiency) is only 21%, which means a saving of 66%. At full capacity, 25 million kWh are saved, which leads to a reduction of 24 million kg CO2, which is the equivalent of the work of 119 000 trees. That is quite a big piece of woods.
We at the WIBROS GmbH are very happy and proud, that our Erzgebirge-Palace has found a new home at Datadock and for being part of a modern, innovative and eco-friendly energy development.
